You have to admit, for the character with possibly the most unoriginal brand in the history of fictional, He-Man has had some actual staying power.
Invented in the early Nineteen-eighties by toy maker Mattel, He-Man (and his Masters of the Universe) launched as a line of toys and games, and an accompanying show on tv designed to entertain children on Saturday morning (and also to sell mentioned line of toys). The actual show lasted from the decade, and generated a live-action movie in 1987, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. Despite if the original series petered in 1988, He-Man kept coming back again; in new computer animated series, in brand new comics, and brand new toy lines. (Mattel still makes ’em.) It appears like he’s about to customize the movie to boot. Skeletor’utes gonna be so angry.
The Hollywood Reporter says that after a lot of development, the rebooted Masters from the Universe may have a new representative: McG, the three-lettered guy behind such activity films as Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation, and <shudder> This Means War. THR says if Micrograms signs on however “oversee another draft” of an screenplay that has currently “undergone a number of rewrites.” This is one way they describe the project:
The remake will follow Emporer Adam, transformed into the enthusiast He-Man, becoming the last a cure for a magical land contact Eternia.
A bold reimagining!
At the very least, the new Masters of the Universe movie would definitely benefit from 20 years of improvements in effects (the original has organized about as well as you’chemical expect a low-budget film based on a toy line to hold up). Whether or not it would benefit from a lot of McG, I really are unable to say. Skeletor, your thoughts?
