Alex Garland’s follow-up to Ex Machina merely keeps getting better and better each and every new casting supplement. The female-centric cast of Annihilation presently includes Natalie Portman, Gina Rodriguez and Tessa Thompson, all upon board for Garland’s future sci-fi project. And it would seem they may have some cool new company, while The Hateful Eight star Jennifer Jason Leigh was in talks to join them.
According to The Wrap, Leigh is in talks to join Portman (that recently appeared inside a western of her with Jane Got a Gun), Rodriguez (Jane the particular Virgin) and Thompson (Creed) in Annihilation, which Garland is directing from your script he authored based on Jeff VanderMeer’s novel of the same title. The story follows a quartet of women sent out with an expedition to Region X, a remote area that was reclaimed by nature — and has led to the horrific deaths of most involved in the 11 previous expeditions.
Leigh has long been a most undervalued actresses, but thanks to the woman’s casting in Quentin Tarantino’utes wintery western and the woman’s impeccable voice work in Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa, she’s ultimately getting the recognition she’s got long-deserved.
Leigh appears next within Amityville: The Awakening, is set to help star opposite Woody Harrelson in LBJ, and has joined up with the ensemble cast of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks revival.
