Boy, that Masterminds title feels so ironic now, huh?
It’s supposed to refer to the actual film’s characters, a variety of bumbling criminals in the midst of an enormous bank heist. But now it seems like a comments on the film’s supplier, Relativity Media, which declared bankruptcy last month subsequent months of enormous financial woes. Masterminds was at first supposed to open inside a little over a 7 days, on August 19; the goal was to flip the high-profile comedy in this summer’s We’re the actual Millers. But the bankruptcy chucked a very large wrench in that plan. 1st, Relativity bumped Masterminds back to April 9, but now Variety reviews they’ve taken it well the release calendar entirely, though in a assertion they did claim they “expect to broadcast a new 2015 release particular date shortly.”
We’ll observe about that. But this setback has to be a major dissatisfaction for everyone involved with Masterminds, a list that includes an impressive roster of comedy ability. The main cast included Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, and Jason Sudeikis, along with supporting players including Ken Marino, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Smith. The screenplay had been co-written by Eastbound & Down creators Danny McBride and Jody Hill, along with the film’s director is definitely Jared Hess, the man behind the actual cult comedy Napoleon Dynamite. That’s in relation to as good a pedigree as any mainstream funny in recent memory space. And now its future is very much in doubt.
A motion picture with that many big names in front of and behind the camera will find a way to theaters for some reason, either with Relativity or another company. Hopefully which eventuality comes around eventually. And hopefully the person who takes the movie in from this point forward really is a mastermind of theatrical submitting. In the meantime, here’s the first trailer for Masterminds.
