Disney’s 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland was an international box office juggernaut, but you’d always be hard-pressed to find anyone who actually liked the omfg thing. Still, over $1 billion at the pack office goes far to helping a studio forget that they somehow managed to discharge Tim Burton’s most detrimental movie (no easy accomplishment), featuring Johnny Depp’ohydrates worst performance (that is even more impressive). So when you gaze upon the first posters for Alice: With the Looking Glass and speculate “Why is this movie something?”, remember that the answer is any Scrooge McDuck-sized vault of cash.
As you will notice below, each poster is identical except for the showcased character. Mia Wasikowska’s Alice and also Depp’s Mad Hatter each stand in the background, bridging a body of water over a trail of melted clocks. There’s and also the new tagline: “It’ersus time for a little insanity,” which sums up this whole thing quite well.
Alice with Wonderland was brutal ample to taint any probable sequel, so we can only assume that James Bobin (connected with The Muppets fame) has heavy skin and nerve fibres of steel. Making any expensive tentpole movie is definitely a stressful enterprise, so getting stuck with the follow-up to a motion picture everyone haaates five years after it had been a huge hit requires a level of professionalism we cannot even fathom. However who knows? Maybe may actually make a better film. It’s not a high bar to mix.
Alice: Through the Looking Glass starts on May 29, 2016.
