If you’re the Star Wars fan who wants to be teased with lots of hints and video about the upcoming movies then J.J. Abrams is basically your Darth Vader. Abrams hates to pry apart people with lots of tips and clips; he prefers to keep as many of his movies concealed from view provided humanly possible. His Negative Robot team techniques a code associated with omerta that would make the Mob blush. I think they just revealed just what the monster in Super 8 looks like, and this movie came out this year.
If you are a trailer-loving Star Wars nerd, here’s more not so good: there is another trailer on its way, but not for a while. Despite the fact that Abrams and the Force Awakens team will be in Anaheim earlier this week for Disney’s big D23 convention, the filmmaker just told Entertainment Weekly in which he’s coming without having new footage, “under the surface or otherwise”:
We’re happy to go to D23 and satisfy the fans, but it’azines a tricky thing to make an effort to rush [footage] for a tradition or preexisting event that would, of course, become fun to show one thing at … I’m however editing and we’lso are working on refining the particular cut.”
Abrams told EW it’s “unbelievably fun to see the film come together.” As for discussing that incredible entertaining with viewers? Uh, really, no; that’s not going to happen anytime soon. He only stated another teaser “inside fall.” (Fall starts officially on October 23, if you’re also curious and want to fit something into your phone calendar to make you feel much better.)
Star Wars: The Drive Awakens opens in theaters about December 18, 2015.
